Does anyone know who this is? At every Seattle parade I've been to I see him dancing or walking around. When I first moved here in 2000 he was one of the first people I saw - I was at the Denny's on Denny and he was being lead around by a guy on a chain. He's like a Seattle landmark now, in my mind at least.

Hottest day of the year! Seattle Animal Shelter urges pet owners to protect pets

Seattle Press Release

SEATTLE – Today is predicted to be the hottest day of the year, with temperatures reaching into the 90s in the Seattle area. The Seattle Animal Shelter urges pet owners to protect their pets from the heat.

“Whenever it’s hot, we receive hundreds of calls about pets locked in cars,” says Animal Shelter Director Don Jordan. “Many pet owners are unaware that cars left in direct sunlight turn into lethal ovens, reaching fatal temperatures of 130 degrees or more within just a few minutes. Even dogs left locked in cars in the shade with the windows cracked on hot days are at risk of brain damage or death. Dogs must cool themselves through panting and their systems can’t handle high temperatures.”

If you must travel with your pet, Jordan advises carrying water for your pet, and avoiding trips where you have to leave the pet in the car. “It’s not worth the risk,” he says.

To cool to not share

This lived along Alaskan Way on June 21 and 22. During its first day it had an "open mouth" look to it - this picture was taken on its second day of existence, after it had deteriorated to "underbite."

The Burke-Gil "on the left" debate... con't.

In the last week I've gotten to do a ton of biking on the trail. For the most part I'm a pretty stalwart defender of vocally "signalling" to pass with a customary "on the left" warning. Although I don't think it's necessary EVERY time, I do think it's safe and courteous.

Just for devil's advocate sake, I thought I'd share that sometimes issuing a verbal warning to pass doesn't get the intended reaction. In fact, for people who are not familiar with it, it could make them jump ANY direction as they turn around to see what's going on. Several times this week that's exactly what happened. And really, they can go anywhere. In cases like this it's easy to see the logic of keeping your trap shut and zooming past them when you can pick a clean line.

Ultimately, I think signalling is good, so I reckon some signage of some sort or some good-natured sharing of this knowledge would help a lot. But just to share, sometimes you get a very bad result from trying to tell someone you're passing them.

Dear seattle;

i've been seeing stickers and t-shirts sporting this logo all over the damn place.
i crafted this nifty 10KB sample to illustrate what i am talking about:

does it have something to do with onions?
or Ramtha?

your help is appreciated!

manicure spa recommendations?

Hello Seattle,

Wondering if any of the ladies out there know of a nice, cheap manicure spa (under $40 maybe?) that does designs on your nails (paint flowers and put gems and such)? I don't think any of the ones on the Ave or U-village do designs.. and I don't own a car so it'd be nice if it's somewhere near UW or downtown area.

Thanks!

auto window tinting... 2 questions.

#1. Does anyone have first hand recommendations to an auto window tint-er in Seattle and to the South of Seattle.

#2. A place I had drove by and stopped to ask about it wanted $250 for a full tint on a mid sized 4 door car. (seemed high to me) They also said they can go really dark, but it is illegal. Has anyone here gone that dark, and got pulled over for it? If I go that dark am I just asking to be pulled over?

Thoughts on this please.

End-Fest 2006?

Hey, my 14yo daughter is going to be in town this august and she wants to go to Endfest. She and i have been to a couple concerts before, but never to a large outdoor pallooza-fest style concert.

Suggestions on seating and tickets and the White River Amphi-theater?

Lawn, seats (100 or 200) or pit?
GA or Reserved?

A big concern is going to be sun, she is a natural red-head and crisps up like bacon. Obviously sunscreen is going to be on the menu, but are there any shade options?

Thanks... and see you at Endfest :)
