International AIDS Candlelight Memorial

Fellow Seattlites,

The International AIDS Candlelight Memorial "is a 12-month mobilization project that encourages communities and individuals around the world to become more involved with HIV/AIDS work through participation in a worldwide memorial. The Memorial takes place every year on the third Sunday of May. The Global Health Council provides all registered communities with the framework to effectively organize a Memorial in their communities."

Only, this year, Seattle seemed to be the only major US city without a memorial scheduled.

So, I scheduled one.

We'll be meeting at the Seattle Center Fountain (in front of Key Arena) at 9:00 p.m. on May 21.

Bring your candles. Act up: Fight AIDS. Email Meghan Young at meghan.young@northwestu.edu for more info, or if you'd like to help spread the word.

VISITING SEATTLE

Hi, everyone!

I am going to be in Seattle next week for a day, for a job interview, and I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on where I should visit during the evening. I'm thinking along the lines of cool shopping areas and night life for the GLBT community. Any help would be appreciated!

Traffic will be worse during rush hour

The Mariners have another midday game scheduled today — a 1:35 p.m. start at Safeco Field — and that could well cause traffic headaches through the downtown area, particularly during the late-afternoon commute.

Metro Transit says it and other transit agencies are working to minimize delays in bus service. But heavy traffic from downtown south through the ballpark area when the game breaks could slow buses. No major re-routes are scheduled, but Metro buses that usually travel on Royal Brougham Way South just east of the ballfield will be detoured to Airport Way South after 3:30 p.m.

Because it's a weekday game, Metro doesn't have any special game shuttles scheduled, but several routes regularly stop close to the field. The M's are hosting the Tampa Bay Devil Rays.

**Makes me very glad I have school after work. I won't have to deal with the mess.**

gluten free beer

Help! I've got a party to go to this weekend, and there will be beer drinking! You'd think this wouldn't be a problem, except I'm celiac. (No, we're not actually 'hear voices crazy' as represented on House last night, but there's nasty vitamin deficiencies for you. Something I'd like to avoid.) So no normal beer, but there are still options.

Has anyone positively seen the following gluten-free beers in the Seattle area (eastside preferred, but yes, I'll drive)? If so, where?

Ramapo Valley Beer
New Grist Beer
La Messagere Beer

And, alternatively:
Woodchuck's Cider
Strongbow Cider

(Edit: based on a suggestion, I called Bottleworks. They don't carry and GF beer yet, but may start doing so come late this summer.)

(Edit #2: Whole Foods was a little clearer about the issue - none of the distributors of gluten free beer are shipping to Washington State. Period. They want to get it in - because they could sell lots of it. But they can't get it. I'm almost certainly going to have to go cider. Alas.)

safeco field question

Does anyone know if Safeco field has Wi-Fi?

I checked their site and it doesn't say, but I seem to remember seeing on the news that they do. Can anyone confirm? Thanks.

Private investigator.

Does anyone have any recommendations for a good, local private investigator or how to determine if a potential candidate is a good P.I? Memories have been checked and there are far too many google listings to narrow this down.

We are trying to locate an individual with very little information from questionable sources. Using the obvious sites to find information has yielded nothing.

Please comment with any feedback about local P.I.s, average rates, or anything else that might be of use to a rookie.
