big fat staring head

free or low-cost spay/neuter for feral cats?

I didn't see anything that answered my question in the memories, so here goes:

I have a family of feral cats living in my back yard. The mama is probably only a year or two old and has two litters that we know of. One litter (of 3) is about 4 months old and the babies (2 that we know of) are only a few weeks old. My upstairs neighbor has access to a humane trap, and if we can wrangle them we want to take everybody to get fixed and get rabies/distemper shots.

So. Now.

Does anyone know of a clinic that will take on this family to fix them and give them shots for a low cost (or, in a perfect world, for free) AND who will not make us license them? (I've talked to a couple of clinics already and even though the cats are wild they expect me to pay $15 a head to license them. Yikes!) I live in Ballard but am willing to travel, as are the neighbors who are in on this with me (it takes a village, you know.) Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks!

Does anyone have any reputable sources for a cord of wood? I'm talking a real cord, too. I've heard sometimes people don't stack the wood right so you end up not really getting a full cord.

North Seattle/Shoreline/Lynnwood would be the best but I could go south as well since I'd borrow my dad's truck and they live south.

Banned Book Week

It's banned book week, an annual event to remind Americans about their freedom of speech and expression. The types of books banned over the ages are widely varied. A school district banned a picture book of "Little Red Riding Hood" because it depicted Little Red bringing bread and wine to her grandmother. "Huckleberry Finn" has been banned because of its racial language. There is a legal ban against child pornography. Are there times when publications should be banned? What if someone wanted to gather all the publicly available information about average citizens, including you, and publish it? That might be very popular with marketers and identity thieves. Does free speech trump your privacy? Is there the publishing equivalent of shouting fire in a crowded theater, publishing factually incorrect information that creates a panic? Should publishing the name of undercover CIA agents or undercover drug agents be banned? We'll talk about banned books. We'll ask should anything be banned and if so, what?

Our nanny needs hours from October 15th to November 15th

Sorry for the cross post but I want to make sure I send this out far and wide.
My mother is coming to visit during those weeks to help with the move to our new place.

Our nanny will be looking for hours to fill up that time. In addition, we are looking to fill some hours with our nanny share and if you are interested in that , you can try our nanny out and see how she works and join our share after November 15th.

I can not recommend her more. I have to say that she rocks.
She not only keeps Scarlet and the otther little one in our share occupied and happy by taking them for walks and playing with them tirelessly but she also keeps the place cleaner than we usually do, does our laundry, dishes, runs errands to the store when the babies are asleep (and I am here of course). She organizes are kitchen, has offered to cook.

If you need help during that time (and she has told me that she also has interest in helping to clean houses if you need that), email me at and I will send you her info. She also has very good references that I can send to you. Her rates are 8.50 an hour for 1 child and 5 dollars an hour for 2 (5 dollars each).

Please feel free to forward to anyone else who might be interested in this.

Hi. Favorite places to go pumpkin picking in the area?

I found this list of Snohomish County farms that looks promising, but I'm curious to know if anyone has a personal recommendation. Thanks.

Apathy did not create this country... but it will destroy it.

I hope everyone understands how important it is to vote this year.
It's more the fact of what people, in the past, have sacrificed for us
to have this right, especially as a woman or a minority.

Did you know that over 40 million women did not vote last year. Women alone in this
country can decide the next presidency.
I feel it's disrespectful to the sacrifices people have made for me and you, to have this right,
and not take complete advantage of it. There are still counties in this world who get
no say so in voting or who runs their country.

As ashamed as I am to say it... I'm 32, and on November 2nd 2004, it will be
my first time to vote....ever.

Edit :
"here is some info for people interested in voting in Seattle"

Hair Cut - VAIN

I'm a dork and I didn't save an entry from a while back. I need a new stylist. I've been going to Bocz, but my gal up and moved to Spain.

I know many of you love VAIN, and it is right close to my house. I'm thinking that it may be too cool for me, but I do need to update my image! LOL

So - who would you steer me towards? I have blonde hair, very fine but lots of it. I don't want to go too short. I'm always looking to add more volume. I don't want to mess with it in the mornings, blow-drying is just about all I have time for.

I apologize for taking up space with the same question that has been asked before. I'm sorry, but I do appreciate any/all advice.

bored during the day?

I have so much free time during the day and I want to jam with other people. I have no experience playing with other people. One day I want a band, so I need the experience. I've been playing for 3 1/2 years and I need to branch out from the solo thing. So does anyone want to jam?
