Dear Seattle,

The intersection of 1st and Pike is weird, yes. But it isn't that hard to figure out.

Here's how it works:

ALL THE CARS GO WHEN THE TRAFFIC LIGHT IS GREEN AND THE CROSSWALK SAYS 'DON'T WALK' (no pedestrians)

then

ALL THE PEDESTRIANS GO WHEN THE CROSSWALK SAYS 'WALK' AND THE TRAFFIC LIGHT IS RED (no cars)

It ain't that hard, folks. If we all cooperate, no one will get run over, no cars will get stuck in the intersection and the planet will continue to revolve.

As for the tourists: who cares what they do, there are too many of them anyway.

Thank you for your cooperation.

Please help!

Does anyone know of a good place on Capitol Hill or Downtown to get sterling silver jewelry repaired?

I have a pair of vintage Navajo turquoise and silver earrings that I love and one of them broke...and I'm SO sad. They were one of the first things I bought for myself when I went to college.

Volunteers Needed!

I had to resign from my volunteer position with Cinderella's Trunk, due to an unresolvable time conflict with roller derby (pssst! check us out at http://www.ratcityrollergirls.com or rcrg). I'm looking for someone to fill my shoes.

Cinderella's Trunk Mission:

Cinderella's Trunk was formed in April of 2000 in Bothell, WA. Our entirely volunteer, non-profit organization strives to help meet the needs of local teens, women, and men of all ages.

We provide formal and semi-formal wear including dresses, suits, shoes, wraps, cosmetics and accessories for formal and semi-formal events such as school dances, proms, weddings, and banquets. Most of the people who use Cinderella's Trunk services would otherwise be unable to attend such events due to financial constraints.

Our mission is to help improve the self-esteem of our community.

Volunteer Opportunities:
  • Personal Shopper - help people find items in their size and style, including accessories, and assist with "store" organization
  • Data Entry - self-explanatory
  • Event Staff - waiters, cooks, auctioneers, whatever...3-5 events per year
  • Seamstress - helps repair the dresses/suits as needed, from simple button/zipper/hem repair to full reconstruction depending on abilities.
  • Dress Mistress - this is the position I held. No, seriously, that's what it's called. :) It involves picking up the dresses to be drycleaned, taking them to be cleaned, and returning them the next week. The Dress Mistress will also coordinate the seamstresses according to desired time commitments, abilities, and materials.

I know it sounds like a cheesy charity. And maybe it is. But it's fun, and it really does provide an important service, however "floofy". Where else can you get fully equipped for prom or whatever for only a $5 drycleaning fee? Plus, as volunteers, you can borrow clothing for free. :)

If you are interested, contact volunteer@cinderellastrunk.com or comment here. They also gladly accept clothing donations.

*edit*

You can also go here [http://www.cinderellastrunk.com/CT_Volunteer.html] and fill out your contact information for volunteering and they'll be in touch. Thanks!

Mac knowledge?

My mac has an 8.6 OS and I've been told that I can't use dsl unless I get updated (how do I update if I can't get online?) Also, the Mac store says they stopped making the update for the 8.6 years ago.

It's kind of a hassle...anyone trying to get rid of an older computer (pc or mac?) I've been stalking craigslist for a few weeks but I keep missing all the good deals.

EMP

Anybody want a year membership to the EMP? I won a gift-membership from a local radio station (100.7 The Buzz), but i don't have the time or desire to go down there. So! What will you trade me for it? All offers will be considered, and I'll make my final decision on Sunday night as to who gets it. One way or another, I *will* be giving this thing away on Sunday night!!!
