static cling!

Port Townsend and area

I'm looking for a place to stay Saturday night over on the Olympic Pensula.  I found this place Manresa Castle to stay Friday night, but my husband and I were thinking of heading more towards the rainforest/ Hoh River on Saturday.  Has anyone been to a hotel, b&b, etc that they can recomend over in that area???? I'm pregnant so I would rather not have it be any kind of camping even though I usually love to!
Thanks!

Clown College will be back next week!

Tonight there is a show at the Vogue, so no Clown College.

Industrial artists Dismantled. 21+ with ID. $5

From the announcement on the Seattle Gothic board:

Dismantled is the product of an experiment that began in late 2000 by Gary Zon, who was attempting to create something similar to Front Line Assembly’s sound. After overwhelming positive feedback from online listeners, Gary began further sonic construction by drawing influences from television, movies, and music as well as adding vocals into the mix. The resulting sound was a unique blend of very melodic, yet complex mix of layered electro-industrial merged with trance elements. This dark, brooding, futuristic ensemble yielded more and more positive feedback, while comparing it to Front Line Assembly, Haujobb, Wumpscut and Velvet Acid Christ.

They will be playing at the Vogue on the 12th. The show is only $5.00

You have reached the non-emergency line for the Seattle Police Department at 206-625-5011. If this is an emergency or if you are experiencing medical difficulties, please hang up and dial 911. If you are a law enforcement officer, or an agency, or calling in an alarm activation, please press one now. All other callers please press 2 now.

Please listen carefully to the following nine menu options. To report an abandoned vehicle, please press one now.

If you are calling to report a vehicle that has been parked on a Seattle city street for longer than 72 hours and has not been moved, please call the Abandoned Vehicle Hotline at 684-8763.

ugh. This car has been parked here for over a month. The front end of the vehicle is smashed in -- I'm assuming it's abandoned. It's a grey 1984 Honda Accord, 174-NYL (WA).

If this your car: come and get it before it gets towed. You have two weeks from today (according to the Abandoned Vehicle Hotline, it 'may take up to two weeks to process [my] request'). I'm sick of listening to your car alarm whenever large trucks come down the street -- which is somewhat funny, 'cuz I bet the alarm is probably worth more than the car.

Also, on another (somewhat related) note... You know those big door-to-door storage crates?

Well, someone in my neighborhood has plopped three of them on the street. Parking is scarce around here. Is it legal to place those on the street? I thought they were supposed to go in your driveway.

wisdom teeth extraction

Any recommendations for oral surgeons/dentists who take out wisdom teeth? Preferably with lots of dope so I can't feel it.

edit: FYI, I'm in Seattle, only getting one tooth out, and paying for it out-of-pocket if I get an appointment before 9/1 (when my insurance kicks in).

The Ave and Starbucks

So i just heard they are putting a Starbucks on the Ave. across from Espresso Roma. WHAT THE HELL!!! Anyone know more information about this? I don't know about you guys, but they are driving me insane popping up everywhere and if they put coffee shops like Solstice, Sure Shot, and Espresso Roma out of business, that's just not cool. Just thought i'd vent. BAH!

Mock Instant Runoff Election

The current presidential election campaign has revealed some problems with our electoral system. For example, left wing progressives are attacking Nader even though he represents their political point of view better than Kerry and the Democrats do.

Instant Runoff has been proposed as a system that could enable voters to support 3rd party candidates without worrying that they are aiding the opposing major party candidate. It is a non-partisan proposal that has the support of 3rd parties across the political spectrum.

San Francisco has voted to use instant runoff balloting this year for electing city officials.

A statewide initiative in Washington state proposes using instant runoff for all statewide elections, including Presidential electoral college selection.

I have written a mock election that simulates how instant runoff works. I would like all of you to visit the site and cast your vote using both systems.

The purpose of this mock election is NOT to accurately reflect who will win in November, but to show the CONTRAST between how people will vote when given a single choice vs. a ranked ballot.

Please forward this to friends. Especially REPUBLICANS. There are too many
Kerry votes in here. It looks a little silly at the moment.

Thanks!

(I'm getting this out for my friend James, so if you've got questions email him at pixel [at] bitmechanic [dot] com)

Camping

Checked the memories. I found info on Camping near the Gorge, and on Day/Road Trips.

What I'm looking for is simple:

Somewhere within an hour of Bellevue to go camping. Somewhere woodsy, with real camping. We're going to be taking mountain bikes, and would like a relatively easy trail to start out.
Not too many hills, but of course it's hard to avoid in this part of the country.

Just a place to set up tent in the afternoon, drink, sleep, get up, bike, and drive no more than an hour home.

The last time we went camping, it turned into 40 college kids all trying to throw a party in the woods because they weren't 21. We want to be secluded, pitch a tent, and have a fire.

Can anyone suggest a great spot within in hour or so of here?

Thanks guys!

3 Show Weekend

Check it out. It's tonight at Hell's Kitchen. If you miss it, I still have two other shows this weekend. If you have any questions on what bands sound like or want websites, I'll hand them out.

But if you'd rather see a show tomorrow or Sunday.....

Can some one point me in the direction of the group or person(s) that would have specific information about the "Welcoming Party" for GW's visit to Medina tomorrow? We'd like to go and show our support.

We're thinking orange coveralls would be a nice start for attire, like those guys that stand on the side of Delridge in the evenings with signs that say "President Bush: War Criminal". Ha ha.

Thanks for the help.

Greetings from Narvik

I'm Kristine, just joined, soon to be 18 years old, from Norway but I'm moving to Lynnwood in 2 weeks to be an exchange student. Yay:)

I've been a scout for 10 years and I'd love to continue with it, but my aunt said I was too old. That there weren't any girl scout groups in the area for me to join. Can anyone prove here wrong?

Reward Offered

Seattle Animal Shelter Investigates Possible Animal Cruelty
at Shilshole Bay Marina
Cat found in the water with noose around its neck

SEATTLE * The Humane Society for Seattle/King County has offered a
$500 reward for information resulting in the arrest and conviction of
the person(s) responsible for the death of a cat found at Shilshole
Bay yesterday. Animal Cruelty in the city of Seattle is a crime. If
convicted, the person responsible for this crime could face a fine of
up to $5,000, a year in prison, or both.

Seattle Animal Shelter Humane Law Enforcement Officers responded to a
call yesterday about a deceased cat found at the dock at 5219
Shilshole Ave. N.W. The officer found a domestic cat with a length of
nylon rope around its neck which had been fashioned into a noose and
tied to a weight at the other end. The cause of death is unknown at
this point, but the body has been sent to a local lab to perform a
necropsy and attempt to determine cause of death. The cat was adopted
from the Seattle Animal Shelter and did have a microchip. The owner
has been identified and contacted by shelter staff.

"This is a tragic and unfortunate incident and we hope we can
find the person or persons responsible," says Seattle Animal
Shelter Manager Don Jordan. "If this was an act of children, it
concerns me because studies have shown that children who abuse
animals, often grow up and commit other serious crimes such as a
domestic violence, child abuse or even murder." says Jordan.

If anyone has information relating to this crime, please contact the
Seattle Animal Shelter at 386-7387 ext. 2.

TAKEN! Thanks everyone who emailed.

hi everyone, i have a pass to the advance screening of "we don't live here anymore," but i can't use it. so, being that this is the seattle community and all, hopefully someone here would like to take it off my hands. the screening is on august 18th at the harvard exit theater (807 E Roy St) at 7pm. you have to get there fairly early (6-6:15pm), but it's free, and you get to take a friend. plus, i'll mail it to you tomorrow, so you should get it in time. anyway, if you want it, email me at mbee86@hotmail.com with your mailing address, and i'll mail it to the first person who contacts me.
