So there's been two little words getting a lot of press lately. You know 'em: "Under God."

You probably know the background story and you also probably know that the phrase "Under God" was added in the 1950's in order to help Americans distinguish themselves from "those godless commies." So it's an addition--an amendment--and not part of the pledge which was originally written.

We can either leave those two words in, or get we can get them out of there. What do you think? Is the pledge necessarily an endorsement of a particular religion or dogma; or at the very least an endorsement of monotheism? Should children be suspended or expelled from school for not saying the pledge--or even, for not saying "Under God" ? (furthermore, is it within a teacher's jurisdiction to answer "what/who is God?" when an atheistic child asks, after saying the pledge for the first time?)

So, what do you think? If there was a vote on this topic tomorrow, what options would you like to see on the ballot, and which of those options would you choose?

Looking for a summer sublet

Hi there. I'm looking for a summer studio or 1-bedroom sublet.

I'm a quiet, book-obsessed college student from California. I work in Seattle during the summers (I lived in a Craftsman house in Greenlake last summer). I won't be bringing most of my things, so I'm looking for a furnished place. I would prefer a nice place (no mildewy shag-carpeting, please), but I don't need too much room. I'm willing to have roommates and I have references, but I'd prefer a place of my own. I can take care of animals/fish/plants. I want high-speed internet, but I'd be willing to have it hooked up if it isn't already.

I'll be in Seattle from approximately June 12th - Sept 19th, but those dates are a little flexible.

Thanks for any help you can give me!

Anyone going to the Mercury tomorrow night? I'm coming up to Seattle for a visit tomorrow (and will eventually move up there in a few months) and the Merc is usually where we go Friday nights. I'd love to meet some more cool locals.

Hey, I am thinking of visiting seattle for a week or so this summer and was wondering if you all might be able to help me out on a few things. I checked the memories on tourism and while it was pretty helpful it didn't have the answers to all of my questions.

I am planning on vacationing alone and staying in a hostel for a week-ish. I'm not going to be bringing or renting a car. Does anyone know of a good cheap place to rent bicycles? How decent is the public transportation there? Will it be cool not having a car in the downtown area or is this a bad idea? Also- I've looked up a lot of vegan restaurants in the area, anyone have a particular favorite? Thanks so much in advance.

I have a Sushi question for you folks:

I'm looking for a very specific type of sushi restaurant in Seattle.

One with sushi boats. Like the conveyer belt, only with boats.

Silly, I know :) I checked the memories, but there wasn't any specific mention of restaurants that have sushi boats.

please be kind! :)
