Washington Presidential Caucuses - February 7th!

The Washington State Caucuses are coming up on February 7th. This is everyone's chance to help choose who will run against George W. Bush in the 2004 Presidential election. Only about 40,000 people are expected to participate in the caucus statewide, so if you go, your vote counts a whole lot. It should be interesting, fun, and generally take less than an hour, so you should all go! Details follow.

Who: Anyone may go. Those who consider themselves Democrats may speak and vote.

When: Saturday, February 7th at 10:00 AM.

Where: Each caucus will be held somewhere near where you live. To find your caucus first find out what Legislative District you live in. This can be done using http://www.leg.wa.gov/DistrictFinder/Default.aspx. Then call or email your Legislative District Chair, whom you can find at http://www.wa-democrats.org/ldchairs.php.

For those political geeks who know which precinct they are in (or have a voter registration card and read their precinct number off of it) you can find exactly where your caucus is at: http://www.wa-democrats.org/prex.php.

What: You basically get together with a bunch of other people, talk about the candidates for a while, and then get into groups based on who you like. Then you pick someone from your group to represent all of your opinions at the County level. If you want a bit more information, you can visit http://www.wa-democrats.org/Caucusinfo.php and get a little more data. If you are interested in a lot more data the Democratic party is running training sessions all month on this subject. Ask your Legislative District chair ASAP if you are interested.

I'm excited about this upcoming time to vote, and I hope you all are too! If your Legislative District chair doesn't get back to you after a day or two, call or write them again or try the vice-chair. If you have any questions, or need further help, feel free to contact ask me, oneirophage

P.S. Getting the word out about this is important. Please feel free to copy this to your journal so everyone else can see it.

Truck Stop Burgers

I'm looking for:

  • A truck stop type place around Seattle somewhere that has "the most awesome and tasty burgers within 300 miles".

  • They can do a nice greasy bacon mushroom swiss.

  • Kind wait-staff would also be nice, though making fun of them can be fun too if they aren't.

  • Within about 150 miles of Seattle, but closer is better (I seriously doubt I can find what I'm looking for in Seattle, but if you think there is a place mention that too please).

  • A place with good fries is also a plus (I like Dick's style fries, but I'm also happy with Wendy's style fries; fresh is better than frozen; I don't really like steak fries).

Does anyone know of such a place? Thanks a lot. I'm looking for a place to go to on Monday for my b/day dinner (b/day is Wednesday, but I have class).

Anyone seeking a roommate?

Due to a recent promotion, it's become necessary for me to find a place close in to the downtown area. I have just begun my search, and it's fairly evident that I may need to find a roommate. I'm a 26 year old single female, neat, friendly, and considerate. I'm looking to move sometime in early March. I'd prefer to spend around $500 a month, which may limit my options quite a bit. But I am hoping that I may get lucky and find someone who's already established on a lease, looking to take on an additional housemate! I am a musician, and I keep odd hours (mostly a night person) so please be tolerant/considerate of these factors. I have no pets. I do have a car and a motorcycle, so parking is also a consideration. I am not particular about the neighborhood, but want to avoid highway traffic between work and home. If any of you can help me out, or offer any advice, I would be extremely grateful!

ISO best local Asian buffet options

One of the things that I liked when living in Knoxville, TN is that I eventually happened upon two excellent, inexpensive pan-asian buffets in addition to the various awful feed-trough ones. I'm sure that Seattle must have more and better in this category ("excellent and reasonable," not "awful feed-lot"), but I have not yet found them.

The type of place I'm looking for would have:

- decent sushi. I know buffets aren't the place to find the Ultimate Piece of Sushi, but that's OK. I just want to snack on avacado rolls, California rolls unbesmirched with mayonnaise (who started *that*?!), ebi ...

- abundant shrimp, for all my undersea prion needs

- fresh salad bar

- cut fresh fruit

- something other than vanilla custard for dessert ;)

Can anyone recommend such a place?

Specifics appreciated, things like what neighborhood, number of shekels, dishes of note for good or ill, etc.

Any combination [sushi buffet + mongolian grill] places?

I find that buffets tend to be great when they first open, then decline as they realize what corners can be cut before the rat leaves the cage. There should be a "tangent to the buffet curve" criterion ;)

(Do any Seattle Live Journal users want to get together for Asian buffet? :) )

West Seattle Coffee House

I just wanted to let you all know about a really great coffee house I work at in West Seattle called C&P Brand Coffee Company. They make some of the best coffee drinks in town, using Lighthouse beans and serving all local, organic pastries from Essential bakery. The couple who own it are some of the sweetest people you'll ever meet, so it makes for a great environment to sit, relax, and drink coffee. I work weekends, so you should all come see me and check the place out!

Here's their music schedule:
Sat, Jan 24. @ 11:00 am: Brazilian Jazz with Marco deCarvalho
Sun, Jan 25 @ 3:00pm: Local singer-songwriter Charlie Spring
Sat, Jan 31 @ 11:00: Brazilian Jazz with Marco deCarvalho
Sun, Feb 1st @ 3:00: Jazz with Supercandy

Recruiting Agencies for Design and Illustration

A friend asked me about design/art recruiting agencies in Seattle. I know of several since I use to work for them. Artsource, Creative Assets etc...

But there was one that was very very cool and I have forgotten their name. Can any of you refresh my memory? I can not tell you anythnig more about them. I suppose I should just be asking what other agencies exist beside C.A. and Artsource... I had the list but it is gone.
