jobdango and advertising signs

Man, stupid people were banging stuff loudly last night, enough to wake me up. Looked outside and it's people putting up advertising signs on wooden poles in the planting strips.

So I took my dog for a walk and took down about 30 of their stupid signs. In some cases I just followed their truck around and took down the signs about 30 seconds after they left them. I encourage you to do the same. Planting strips are not a free advertising venue for some hare-brained dot-com. Our city will look better without them. Make sure you leave the sign at a garbage can.

The same goes for herbalife and other idiots, but they don't go city-wide with million dollar advertising budgets.

yeah, the ones that they were hammering at 1am were in an empty lot across the street. we should be able to charge people for leaving this crap on our stuff.

Woohoo. I *hate* all those "new homes" signs too (I live in Lynnwood) and have threatened on many occasions to take them down. I'm glad someone is actually doing it :)

Their argument likely will be that the strips and any land beyond a sidewalk are public property.

That said, I agree. It's spam. I would also note (while removing them in a huff, of course) the companies that advertise this way, and boycott them.

Uh...

That would be a pretty stupid argument, considering it's illegal.

King County's sign regulations prohibit any signs, posters, bills or other advertising devices, including political campaign signs, on the county's right-of-way, public easements, public property or utility poles — with a few exceptions.
The King County Code (21A.20.120C, “Political Signs”) allows such signs when they have been have been specifically permitted for traffic management and safety purposes. These are real estate open house signs (the agent or owner must be on-site) and directional signs granted by special-use permit.

Re: Uh...

Ooh. That's news to me. Good to know.

Next time anyone sees this, get a name and license plate number and call someone at King County (206-296-8100 or 1-800-527-6237 for the sheriff's office complaint line). That should put a stop to it in short order.

Re: Uh...

Actually, it is not illegal to poster according to the city. Though it seems to only talk about individuals, and events and doesn't really address commercial use. It certainly seems in bad form to use a space reserved for the public for your commercial advertising purposes though.

Re: Uh...

Ah. That confused me at first but it makes sense: it's okay to poster on city property for events (like concerts and shows, or someone's missing pets), but not okay to post commercial advertising for a business.

Re: Uh...

wouldn't that only apply to roads maintained by King County, though, and not those maintained by the City of Seattle?

Re: Uh...

I can't see any reason why county laws wouldn't apply within the city, but I'm only guessing. If you can find something that says otherwise, I'd be interested.

hey,

While I disapprove of planting strip advertising, I feel kind of sad that you would undermine some poor schmoe's work. I mean, what if they get paid for this and then their boss sees none of the signs up? I mean, maybe not, but aigh. This is all too sad!

And then you had to pick it up. The grand majesty of law and consistency. Oh, wait, you don't really care about consistency. You're an opportunist fuck who applies law and judgement when it suits your simpering crusade.

and your hanging from a telephone wire

Hey bozo, you get off on being a liar or something? Funny thing is I saw those guys, and they weren't in a truck!!! Even funnier, seems like you have way too much time on your hand and you complain way too much.

Why not try something constructive! Oh, wait that would be too much work, and you wouldn't have anything to complain about. Which would defeat your lack of purpose in life.

Hair brained? sounds more like your best friend, and his deposits which by the way; do you pick up? doubt it. I took a look at thier site and seems too me your just upset cause their doing something of value.

Don't forget Karma's gonna come back on you..........

Re: and your hanging from a telephone wire

Um, don't you think there could have been more than one group of people putting up those signs?

And cleaning up illegal litter from public property counts as "constructive" in my book.
